On Saturday, November 16, 2024, our team partnered with the New Jersey Department of Human Services’ Commission for the Blind and Visually Impaired, through their Project Better Eye-health Services and Treatment (BEST), for a health fair in New Brunswick, NJ. The event was focused on providing comprehensive diabetes screenings to individuals in the community.
The day was a huge success! The health fair saw an enthusiastic turnout, with attendees from Middlesex, Somerset, and Mercer counties. Over 90% of the individuals we served were uninsured, while the remainder were underinsured. We were able to reach those who might otherwise have limited access to critical health services.
Our screening identified a significant number of participants at risk for diabetes. Approximately 25% of the attendees evaluated were diagnosed with both high blood pressure and pre-diabetes or diabetes. In response, our team provided automatic blood pressure monitors and glucometer starter kits, along with hands-on training for proper use, ensuring that participants were equipped with the tools they need to manage their health effectively.
Our organization’s work doesn’t stop there. Every individual assessed by All About You Healthcare Advocates will receive ongoing follow-up to make sure they are connected to the necessary resources and services for continued care. This ensures that they have access to the support they need as they navigate their health journey.
We want to extend a special thank you to Ms. Sandra Williams and the Project BEST team for inviting us to collaborate on this meaningful event. It was an honor to work together to serve our communities.
