Mission Statement/Vision

All About You Healthcare Advocates mission is to improve the health and well-being of vulnerable and underserved populations by providing comprehensive health advocacy services. We offer health assessments, education, and navigation services to ensure equitable access to vital healthcare and community resources. We are committed to transforming the way healthcare is delivered, ensuring that every person can achieve their best health and well-being.

We believe that every individual deserves a voice when it comes to their healthcare needs, concerns, and options. Through compassionate service and responsible stewardship, we are committed to improving health disparities and ensuring equitable access to quality care.

Our vision is to create a future where every individual, regardless of their circumstances, has access to quality healthcare services. We strive to reshape the healthcare system to be more inclusive, empowering, and accessible for all.

Who We Are

All About You Healthcare Advocates is a nonprofit organization committed to advancing healthcare advocacy in New Jersey. We provide essential health assessments, education, and navigation services to ensure that vulnerable and underserved individuals can access the quality healthcare and community resources they need. Dedicated to bridging healthcare gaps, we advocate for health equity and improved health literacy, empowering those we serve to make informed decisions, achieve their healthcare goals, and enhance their overall well-being.

A research study published in The Journal of Pacing and Clinical Electrophysiology (PACE), titled “Patient Advocacy: What Is Its Role?”, highlights the significant impact of patient advocacy organizations. Researchers found that patient advocacy groups uniquely contribute to healthcare by collaborating with patients, their families, and healthcare professionals. This collaboration leads to two key outcomes:

1. Patients receive a higher level of quality care with the support of a medical advocate.

2. Healthcare providers are better equipped to offer quality care to their patients.

Our compassionate team is acutely aware of the complexities and challenges within the healthcare system. That is why we are dedicated to guiding those we serve through their healthcare journey. We empower individuals to clearly define their health priorities and make informed decisions that lead to positive outcomes in their physical well-being. By addressing their unique needs and concerns, we ensure they navigate the healthcare system with confidence and clarity.

Our experienced healthcare professionals understand how difficult it can be to navigate through the complex healthcare arena. That is why we are enthusiastic about helping those we serve see their way through. We believe that by putting our clients in the front seat, they can articulate what matters to them most about their health and make wise decisions that will improve their physical well-being.

Goals of Organization

Our organization seeks to improve Health Equity by dismantling the barriers that hinder access to primary and preventative healthcare services and resources in underserved communities. We strive to ensure that individuals with limited resources and lack of health literacy receive quality healthcare services.

Our primary goal is to provide essential health services that enable our target population to receive healthcare exams and vital health screenings. We aim to assess whether an individual has an acute or untreated chronic medical condition and identify the barriers our community members face when accessing primary medical care and preventive healthcare services.

We also strive to expand our network of community health partners and healthcare providers who share our goals. By doing so, we can serve a larger population and increase access to vital healthcare services, which can help prevent delays in treatments and optimize the health and quality of life for hundreds of individuals and their families.

Additionally, we aim to reduce the negative stigma surrounding healthcare in our communities by promoting positive health outcomes and minimizing the unnecessary use of healthcare resources.

All About You Healthcare Advocates (AAU) will provide health care advocacy consultation services to individuals in the state of New Jersey, currently serving Middlesex County. Our experienced healthcare professionals will offer our clients one-on-one assistance, will assess our clients’ needs, and address any concerns our clients may have as it pertains to their physical health and well-being. We will review our clients’ treatment plan of care set-forth by their healthcare provider(s), or lack thereof.

Our primary goal is to ensure that our clients receive quality healthcare services by bridging any gaps that may exist between our clients and their healthcare provider(s). Our team of experienced healthcare professionals understand how difficult it can be for one to navigate through a very complex healthcare arena; whether you have an acute illness, a chronic medical condition, or you are just simply trying to keep up with your routine care appointment(s) and medication(s), we are dedicated to help you see your way through!

We believe in a “goal-oriented” approach, that sets the stage for our clients (putting them in the front-seat), to be able to articulate what matters to them the most about their health. We seek to empower them to make wise decisions that will ultimately improve our clients’ health and well-being, to improve the negative stigma that can be associated with healthcare and decrease the cost of the unnecessary use of resources.
Our “teamwork-approach” will allow us to work with our clients and collaborate with their healthcare provider(s), thereby bridging any gaps in miscommunication, striving for optimal treatment outcomes and preventing any delays in treatment.

We seek to help underserved individuals in our communities with limited access to healthcare and healthcare resources; those without healthcare insurance or have minimum healthcare insurance benefits and individuals who may have a lack of understanding on how the healthcare system operates. We will strive to provide our services to anyone seeking our assistance 18 years of age or older.

The Need for Health Advocacy & How All About You Healthcare Advocates is Changing the Narrative

A 69-year-old woman with Medicaid Struggled for four weeks to secure a dental appointment, only to be informed the day before that the doctor’s office no longer accepted her insurance.

Outcome: Our health advocate successfully found and secured a dental appointment for her and arranged free transportation.

A 38-year-old undocumented woman with no health insurance and a history of hypertension Had not seen a doctor in over two years. Her blood pressure was 180/110, and she had been experiencing headaches and nosebleeds for several weeks but refused to go to the emergency room.

Outcome: Our health advocate educated her about the detrimental effects of high blood pressure and signs to watch out for, prompting her to seek emergent care if needed. She was provided with a blood pressure cuff and taught how to use it in her native language. Community partners helped our team secure a timely healthcare appointment for her

A middle-aged woman admitted with abdominal pain, was told by her healthcare team that she needed surgery (an exploratory laparoscopy) without adequate explanation. Despite her attempts to ask questions, she “felt dismissed,” preventing her from making an informed health decision and resulted in a delay in of care.

Outcome: Our health advocate collaborated with the healthcare team to provide her with the necessary information, allowing her to understand and make an informed decision about her surgery.

A 50-year-old uninsured woman who experienced a stroke as a small business owner, she could not afford commercial insurance nor qualify for Medicaid or Charity Care. Upon discharge from rehab, she was given medications that should have cost her $45, but due to lack of explanation about a prescription discount card, she paid over $300 out-of-pocket.

Outcome: Our health advocate contacted the retail pharmacy, securing credit for the excess out-of-pocket cost. The client is now aware of available coupon saving cards that can help lower the cost of some medications.

The stories above from those we have served underscore the vital role of All About You Healthcare Advocates. They highlight our unwavering commitment to enhancing the care, treatment, and health outcomes for vulnerable and underserved populations.

All About You Healthcare Advocates

My Story

Tanesha Owens is a board-certified Nurse Practitioner and Patient Advocate. She is the President and Founder of All About You Healthcare Advocates. She has been enthusiastic about caring for others for over two decades, ever since she decided to pursue a career in nursing. Throughout her nursing career, she has continued to advocate for her patients and their families, providing them with exceptional care.

In 2017, Tanesha was diagnosed with a rare neurological disorder that left her paraplegic and blind. Despite her years of healthcare knowledge, she felt isolated and fearful. This experience motivated her to ensure that no one should feel that way or struggle to access healthcare and preventive life-altering treatment that can improve their health and quality of life. With the grace of God and months of ongoing intensive therapy and rehabilitation, Tanesha regained her vision and ability to walk again.
Tanesha’s husband is a remarkable four-time cancer survivor. Throughout his journey, Tanesha stood by his side as a fierce advocate, collaborating closely with his team of clinicians. Her unwavering commitment ensured that he received the finest care, where his voice was not only heard, but actively included in the decision-making process. This comprehensive approach prioritized both his emotional well-being and physical needs.
The COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 instilled a great deal of fear in our communities, healthcare providers, and hospitals. Tanesha found herself advocating for her family, friends, and colleagues more than ever before. She began by lending a listening ear and providing moral support. Her role soon expanded to phone consultations, where she helped people understand their health and treatment options, collaborating with their care providers, and advising them on when to seek medical attention. Tanesha realized that having a patient advocate was crucial and made a positive impact on the mental and physical health of those she assisted.
Tanesha Owens established “All About You Healthcare Advocates” in 2021 to address health disparities that disproportionately affect individuals with limited resources and lack of health literacy. Her personal experience of living with a chronic illness has enabled her to fully comprehend the day-to-day struggles that may hinder someone from working and earning a living to provide for their family. The ability to obtain affordable, quality healthcare services, or pay for medications, can be challenging and have a devastating impact on whether one will seek healthcare at all. This is especially true for early health screenings that can detect a treatable medical condition and improve the trajectory of someone’s life. Tanesha is committed to making a difference in healthcare and attributes her ability to work and advocate for others to her faith and calling from God.

What People Say

If we did not have you to advocate for my husband’s health plan, explain the medical procedures ordered, interpret test results and call for moral support I know that his care and recovery would have been much more difficult.

Your advocacy, support and knowledge was priceless and assured us when we were so unsure that we were making good medical decisions. The medical staff, without a doubt, did treat us differently when you conferenced with them on our behalf. You were able to articulate with confidence what was expected and as a result my husband got better care and attention. We are eternally grateful for the support, time and love you poured into us. It gave my husband the strength and confidence to get well. My prayers are that every patient and family would have a Tanesha to support and advocate for them when dealing with the healthcare system.

Love and blessings,

Tanesha loves to help people and cares about meeting their needs. Her healthcare expertise helped me to better understand what to expect during my time in the hospital. She helped ease my worries when I felt that I was being discharged too soon. I am truly grateful for the services All About You provided!

Thank you!
